Here's the sketch we were inspired by

Stars are all over Hollywood... whether they are celebrities, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, or in the sky! We thought it would be fun to provide you with a fun, movie-themed sketch (notice the Title and Sub-Title features along with the arrows representing 'play' buttons) for this week's challenge!

Special thanks to Heather from Cricut Inspired Layouts for letting us use her sketch!

Monday is a lame way to spend 1/7 of your life!

Happy Monday Ya'll!
I participate in The Altered Paper Tag Swap--go visit, you can still be a part of these monthly swaps. Plus, Tee has swaps going on all the time!
I made two tags:
!.  More vintage, with Lady Liberty and darker reds and blues with added vintage lace and a button and oh! red gingham ribbon!

The flip side I used a rub on to create the maps and swirly stuff.  I just discovered rubons--I had no idea what they were and exactly how to use them.  I found a video on youtube....geez, you can find anything on you tube.
The second tag I made was more bright with red, white and blue!  Lots of sparkly and a really cute shaker! I love to buy these kinds of things when the season is over and things go on clearance.  Heck, the 4th of July comes around every year.  The "shooting stars" are from a dollar store necklace--cool effect huh?!

check out the little charm--I bought these wine glass charms at a yard for probably 25 cents.

Remember I have a little giveaway in honor of my grandmother at this posting. Stop by and leave a comment.

Tag-erfic Saturday!

Saturday was a beautiful busy day at my home.  Thank goodness I was able to postpone some things on my schedule to complete these tasks.  Here's just a bit of what I did yesterday, these tags were made for some Girl Scout volunteers who are earning one of our highest awards.  I can't wait to celebrate their achievements!

This picture I took off center so you could see what's behind the "curtain."  I tape up a piece of white paper to the front of my aquarium.  Just started doing that, so my Angel Fish is very interested in what I'm doing.  See him on the right?

Additionally, as soon as I get to messing around the aquarium, Sookie, the kitten is there too.  She has decided she LOVES fish food too.  Whatever little sprinkles fall outside of the aquarium is her's!! It seems like she interested in this tag--but really she's going for the sprinkles of fish food.

Challenge Friday and a giveaway

Hello All!
This month has just flew by, it's already January 27th, which means YOU have exactly 4 days left to enter
this giveaway.  My cute mom turned 79 this month and in her honor we are celebrating with a BIG gift to you!  Whoopy!!!

Recently I found Card Patterns Blog and am so excited, cause I feel like I can actually DO some of these challenges. Ya'll know what I'm talking about, you see some challenge that ask for a red, white, puke green with purple roses layout.  Not that there is anything wrong with a red, white, puke green and purple roses layout. It's just that I am green with envy less talented than the woman that can ROCK that layout AND make you wish you were the ONE that was so clever. Darn you***fist shaking***
 Am I right?

Anyway....there was a sketch....and here's my work:

This started with a brown cardstock that actually was in a xmas 6x6 stack.  I used my brand new Cricut Expression to cut a scalloped circle. Then two full circles(one off white, one patchwork) I cut those two circles in half and put one side each on the blue scalloped circle.

I had a bit of an accident with my automatic tape dispenser at this time.  I wish I had a picture of that....next time...to be sure...there will be a next time!

Some vintage lace from a RAK I won, a little bright pink bling border topped with a butterfly border.
Stickles is my very bestest friend--I used it to add dimension on the patchwork and on the swirls of the butterflies.

Black embossed "love" stamp from the dollar bin

Chipboard heart with a thick coat of stickles(my bestie) with a diamond bling brad to hold it in place.

Show me some love......

Encouraging Words Magnet Swap

Happy Saturday Blog Friends!
Today I have a moment to sit and catch up on the wonderful blogs I follow and also to do a litte posting too.  This time of year is the busiest time of year for me. I'm visiting local schools, hosting Girl Scout events in the park, making radio appearances and generally keeping busy as a bee.  Check out some of these cute shots.....

come and play with me!

I know their moms are proud!

aren't these the cutiest faces!
Thank goodness for a patient hubby that doesn't mind making dinner and handling household chores, while I rustling up some Girl Scouts!  Thank you Mr. Horn....
our wedding day...only a few years back!

If you're a Girl Scout Alumnae(or former Brownie) remember that 2012 we are celebrating 100 years of Girl Scouting.  You can find out about some upcoming events by visiting your local Girl Scout councils website, go to Girl Scouts USA website to find out more.  If you'd like, leave me a comment about your favorite Girl Scout memory.  I love to hear your stories.

This week I participated in a swap with the very talented artists at Gingersnap Creations.  I had to make 4 magnets with encouraging phrases and then I'll get in return 4 magnets from different artists.  **excited**
I'm very happy with the final look of these magnets and may reproduce them in the future.
Believe good things will happen to you!
Somebody's gonna do it, why not YOU?

Be confident and proud
dream big dreams, have big ideas

My favortie is the  birdbath stamped image with the words, "Dream big dreams, have big ideas"  Don't we all need to think like that?  Here's a close up where you can see the glossy accents I added to give some dimension to the magnet.(A suggestion from the MR.)

These were magnetic frames from Michaels that cost me a whole whopping $1.49!  First I printed out on regular copy paper the phrases and cut them to fit the frame.  I added Adirondack Alcohol Inks to the frames, let that dry and then slid the copy paper in to the frames.  After that I figured out where I would place the stamps.  After I was all done, I just felt like something else needed to happen.  I pulled the paper with the phrases out of the frames and added distressed ink around the edges in Black Soot.  These pictures were taken before I added the distressed ink.  Take my word for it, adding the distressed inks around the edges really gave the magnet another dimension.

I love working with the alcohol inks--I need to buy some in all the different colors.  Sookie isn't too fond of them, I guess her little sniffer can really pick up the chemicals from the blending solution and her eyes get all squinted when she smells the bottle. Why is she sniffing the bottle you ask?  Because that's what cats do.

ready to sniff whatever is on the work table

After a few too many sniffs, the kitten is ready to party!  She even puts silly things on her head!  Sookie, you are now limited to a one sniff limit.

Have a wonderful weekend people! Take a moment to remember 9/11 and those that serve our country.  Hugs and kitten kisses,
G

Rainy day cards

This summer has been so much fun for me!  I've started blogging and doing more creative things in my little space.  I've found some wonderful social networking sites like bella creations and the flying unicorn .  My busy time at work starts in the next few weeks, and I'm already hating the idea of being out of touch with the blogs I follow and challenges.  I promised myself to set aside time every week to create and make something beautiful.  Ya'll have to come visit me often in the next few months and remind me to come and play.

I'll be out of pocket for a few days, but wanted to make sure and get my entries into a few different challenges.  The Flying Unicorn has two challenges I entered.  One is the summer fun splash, featuring water and the color blue.  The other is called....wait for it...
Eensy, wensy, teenie, weenie, yellow polka dotted bikini.

Thank goodness we didn't have to send in a picture of ourselves in a bikini.  We've already had a discussion about my girlish figure and my love of sweets.  And as much as my cute hubby would like, I will NOT be modeling an eensy, weensy, teenie, weenie, yellow polka dotted bikini!    Instead, we only had to include  polka dots in our work...whew!  So, here you go:

Thanks to Maggi at Lotsa Scrap  for the yummy Charlie Chaplin images(at least that's what I call him).  I won a RAK from her blog a little while back and have been chomping at the bit to fit this fella into something.  Perfect challenge for the dapper gentleman!

Here are a couple of up close images.

These aren't perfect, but it doesn't matter, right?  It's therapeutic, I'm sure you would all agree!

The rest of the set included a couple of cute children's images.
Remember when you were a child and you could play in the rain without worries?  Mussing your hair, messing your clothes and who cared if your socks were wet.  It all added to the wonderful carefree experience of jumping in the puddles.

Since this Flying Unicorn challenge asked me to incorporate water and the color blue....I wanted to tie in the rain theme with the gents above and found this freaking adorable graphics at Graphics Fairy Blogspot
I adore this card.....

notice the splashes...this came from a stamp set with a WHALE and his spout .  perfect here!

I am so proud of how I handled the puddles the children are jumping in.  I used a Tim Holtz distressed stamp circles and used the Stayz on Ink.  I added some silver stickles to the circles to represent water.

How about this little girl card....oh my...is she adorable!? She's supposed to look as if she got caught in a little "pop up" summer shower--very popular her in Tennessee.  These kinda showers come around, just long enough to make everything hot and sticky!

I want you to take a moment and enjoy the little umbrella.  This is a beach umbrella stamp, I turned it upside down and colored it in with a sharpie. I'm so proud of my resourcefullness.

I added layers of the simple flower to try and add dimension...Look at my polka dotted clouds!  Got those from a RAK from the Flying Unicorn!

I'm in love with these cards....Now...who should I give them to?

Before I end this post, I want to share with you my sister's polka dotted dog.  Noah, he's scared of storms and gets really frantic at times.  Here he is smiling at the camera, after one of his frantic moments. Poor old man dog!
