The day my Mom kicked me off the Christmas card list

For Realz ya'll!
(Now listen, stick around to the very end, cause I need your help deciding on something)

Recently I was having a convo with my mom about Christmas cards.
Do you ever have random conversations that you don't even know how they winding around to a subject? It was one of those conversations....Here we were unloading groceries and the next minute we were talking about Christmas cards.

I admitted that I didn't send many cards out in the past few years and Mom proceeded to tell me her system.
She has a list of each person/family she is sending a card to, as she writes the card, addresses and sticks a stamp on the envelope--she checks that name off the list.

That's terrific, I LOVE  a good system, #Ilovecheckmarks

So then, this cute little momma of mine tells me about the second column on her Christmas card list. The naughty or nice column.
The column that will make you or break you.
This is the column where she checks if you sent her a card.
(note to self, ask Mom if she will show you the list--It's a great need of mine to see it)

Then with the cutting her throat gesture, my sweet momma said, "Two years and no checkmark--you are off the list."

We both just laughed and laughed and laughed.
And, then seriously, I said, "I better get some Christmas cards..."

Here's where I need your help...
Which of these would you choose? 1, 2, or 3
BTW As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

It's not too early to purchase Xmas cards, is it?
I've narrowed it down to these 3--please help me decide.
(if you can't see the images below, copy the website url into internet explorer or firefox)

1. These have a cool retro vibe and are blank on the inside so I can write a nice note to my mom about how much I love her and wish her a merry holiday, yada, yada, yada.

2. What!! Scratch and sniff Xmas cards. No freaking way! I'm really leaning toward these.

or
3. A real classic selection. I love buying a box of cards with options. So if I really like you you'll get the cutest card and if you're kinda a friend you'll get the dullest card. haha

Hold on Sunday, I ain't ready for Monday yet

It's been a beautiful weekend in Nashville, unseasonably cool. Cool enough that we may just sit out on the deck this evening.  This time of year it's typically so stinkin' hot stepping outside is like a steam sauna x 10.  But, NOT today. Today it's lovely outside!

Time Travel Thursday 8-9-12

1962,

  • the year of the Cuban missel crisis with the Russians and JFK
  • folk music evolved to protest music thanks to artists like Bob Dylan(does anyone understand him?)
  • A new hit  tv show was on prime time: The Beverly Hillbillies(my personal favorite)
  • James Bond became an instant legend in 1962 with his first movie, "Dr. No."(does anyone drool over the new James Bond: Daniel Craig like I do?  Man, he is HOT!)

And,
my mom had her 3 little girls photographed by Olan Mills
Left to right: Kathy, Patsy, Margie
Matching dresses and cute as buttons.  Look at their chubby little hands! My twin and our little sister weren't even a sparkle in my parents' eyes yet....what a cute set of little girls!

A few years later, this photo was taken. 1964

Favorite Quote of the week 8-4-12

Aww, Saturday...
How I wish we had a whole week of you.
PJ's all day
Sleep late
Mid day snooze
early to bed

Every Saturday I like to share with you some highlight of my week.  You know those moments in time where you smile at something someone said...those moments you wish you could hold onto and visit over and over.

But, let's take a time travel moment(I know, it's not Time Travel Thursday), I just ran across this photo on my mother's facebook(yes, my 79 year old mommy has a facebook AND she's scanned every single family photo and uploaded them to Facebook)

My mom and her ONLY pair of jeans ever. 1962

Now. back to the story and my favorite quote of the week.
Mom of four(2 girls, 2 boys) was talking to me this week about life at her house.  In pleasant conversation she said, "Yay, I let him go pee on the fence."
stop.
Wait.
"Whaddyou say?"
"Oh yay, when Ian is a good boy, I tell him he can go outside and pee on the fence."
"It's a boy thing."
"They like to do that kinda stuff and it's cheap."

maybe you had to be there, but I laughed my guts out.

Time Travel Thursday 7-25-12

Yesterday I left you wondering...what time period should we travel to today?  Hmmmmm....
Since it's summertime, let's travel back to 1962ish where my mother made matching dresses for her 3 baby dolls.

See you later in the week for my newest scrapbook layout. Thank goodness I've made My Cricut Craft Room Design team, so I can take all these photos and put them to good use.  I'm really, really excited about a "movie night" layout I'm working on.  Can't wait to share!

Favorite Quote of the Week

Happy Saturday Ya'll,
I'm spending my day inside making several tags and cards today, I wish it would be cool enough for a bike ride, but... 104 degrees is not my kinda heat.  I love to close out the week with some fun quote I heard through the week.

Here's the story!

This is my twinny with her famous red nose and her friend Monchichi.  Monchichi was her son, Michael's baby from the time he was  one year old.  You can see this cute little monkey is much loved!  My sister posted this picture on facebook with a Happy Birthday wish. Here are the comments that went along with picture--read through them, I promise you'll laugh.

Mom: There's a special monkey in my life having a birthday soon. oh yeah and Michael too!
Michael: he's looking so rough!
Mom:He looks well loved Michael. See that bare spot on his chest? That is where you tucked him under your arm.
Michael: hmm. i don't think so. i distinctly remembering giving him a haircut.
Mom: Haha! The truth comes out
Michael:i really regret covering his eyes with fingernail polish that one time!

Well, maybe you had to be there and know the two of them. I love the truth coming out that Michael gave the monkey a haircut and nail polish on his eyes.  Funny!  The things we find out as our kids grow up!

Remember to stop by this posting for this week's giveaway in honor of my grandma Lila! It's better to give than receive, hope you enjoy!

Time Travel Thursday

It's the day of the week where we venture into my family's photo albums to see what we can see.
And...
Away...
we...
Go....
Today's photo is in homage to my paternal Grandma, Lila Seay from Georgia.

L-R, Lila, Fred(husband), aunt clara, uncle clarence, unknown, aunt eula
She was a lady of many tales, she could spin a yarn like nobody else.  She was the sweetest, kindest and wisest woman on the planet.  And, I miss her very much!

Her birthday would be this Friday, so maybe, just maybe we'll giveaway something special in memory of my grandma. Come back tomorrow, but if you want to enter into this week's giveaway click this link.

even the dog is smiling!

Some of my favorite sayings of my grandmother were:
"Georgie if you do ______for me then I'll dance at your weddin."
"He's just a ring tailed tooter....."
Some of my favorite stories included:
  • We are kin to Jessie James the famous outlaw(oh boy!!)
  • She was a triplet, that was switched at birth and her real name was Delila. Her triplet sisters died young.  I've asked my dad to confirm, but he can't.  He says, "Your grandma, she was good at telling tales."
  • When she was young her hair was black as night, with a white streak down the middle like a skunk.
  • My great grandfather married an Indian squaw

One more little story and if you're still reading, thank you!  I know most people have clicked onto another blog by now.  My sweet grandma came to live with us after our grandfather passed away.  She was 75 years old and illiterate.  My twin and I were learning to read and write in school and my VERY smart mother had us sit on either side of her and teach her our lessons.  She was our captive audience...I can just see us chirping away in her ears--in stereo!

Before long my grandmother was reading on her own.  She subscribed to Harlequin romance book club and every month she received SIX romance novels and read them over and over and over again!  Yes, she loved them! At her death she had a gagillion romance novels.

When we learned to write my grandmother would have us write her letters to relatives, but soon, Lila learned to write too!  It was an exciting day the day my grandmother wrote her first letter.  I can remember it to this day.

Her pride in herself that she had written on her own without any help at 75+ years her first letter.  Later she also learned cursive writing.  What a bright woman!

Lila and my mother, circa 1975. My mother was probably younger than I am now.
Hand me a Kleenex please
If you've stuck around this long to listen to my time travel Thursday, leave me a comment about a favorite memory of your grandparents.  Come back tomorrow to see what we'll be giving away in honor of Lila Seay.

We had our family xmas party this weekend and although there were no illegal substances or even alcoholic beverages (or at least...no one shared anything with me)

It was a Seay family FrEE-for-all!
Antlers were broken,
red noses everywhere
spirit fingers abounding
At some point  a cowboy hat showed up with antlers!
vogueing (is that a word)
and a visit from
Dr. Evil
who the hell cares about Santa Claus when Dr. Evil's in the room....

My hearts a stereo, it's beats for you so listen close...

If you don't know the song I'm quoting here, then make sure and watch the video I've posted below.  It's a cute little diddy that makes you hum all day long.  I've designated Thursday as "What song is in your head" day.  I wake up every morning with some song in my head.

It could be a ballad from Barbara Striesand or Aerosmith rocking tune or even a Lutheran hymn I grew up singing

"Onward Christian Soldiers...marching as to war, with the cross of Jessssuuuusss, going on before."

I never know and that's the joy of it.  Tell me what song did you wake up to this morning?  Leave me a message peeps, I want to know I'm not the only crazy in the room.  As a dedication,  I'll add the following pictures, because these are the people that my heart beats to:

little brown eyed girl and the MR.

the family unit circa 1970, minus Mom and Kathy

Not that my Mom and sister Kathy don't beat in my heart, just that they aren't in the picture. Silly people.

the sookie girl, helping me send out xmas cards 2010

And, now for the video.  I heart Adam Levine, oh, if I were only 25 again, single and HOT...I'd be a groupie for this man!  Yowsers!

Roses are Red....

Oh, I am so excited to make this posting.  Kristen at Twinkle twinkle like a star  is hosting the Summer of Color party and this week the color is RED.  LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.

I just returned from visiting my little brown eyed girl, ya'll remember her, right?

She lives in Ohio and while I was there we went to this location:

If you are ever in Columbus, you NEED to go to this park. Oh my, this garden is a beautiful place to visit!  Just a little story, my little German mother has always had a green thumb and loves flowers.  She passed on her love  to her children.  I don't have a green thumb, but really enjoy a beautiful garden.

mom's birthday 2011
Isn't she lovely?  That's my pop next to her, they've been married for over 50 years.

When we were little children my mother had gardens all over our yard, including this beautiful climbing rose bush. Below you can share in the joy of  my two older sisters posing next to a beautiful bush.  Don't you dig their vintage clothing?(not vintage at the time...) I'm sooo in love with the hounds tooth, my big sister, Margie is wearing.  So fashion conscious!

Anyway, my twinnie and I visited the beautiful rose garden in Columbus.  Here's my twinnie peeking out from one of the bushes!

Jaymie stopping to smell the roses!
In honor of the summer of color, red week, here are some of the beauties that we found....

tip toe through the tulips..eer, I mean roses

I believe this one was named "George Burns"

1967 5 little girls, one in the tummy.
When we were little girls, our mother would take us to the local rose garden after Sunday church. I loved this field trip, the gardens were lovely!  The rule was we could pick up all the petals we found on the ground, but could not touch the flowers.  I can remember running through the garden and looking for all the petals on the ground.  I treasured them and can remember all the different colors in my little chubby hands:  yellow, white, pink and red.

Aww, the heady smell of the roses!

As we walked through this garden, my twin and I relived those wonderful memories with our mom.  Including the petals on the ground.
