Hello Blog Friends,
Welcome to my weekly Time Travel day. Today I thought we would visit 3 generations of 18 year old young women.
1st my mother: Gerda, 1951
Then me, Georgie, 1983
Then my little girl, Heather in 2004
And, since we are talking about 3 generations, lets see all three of us together.
And, let's tie this into more dimples...just a little sneak peak. Full photo to follow in the next few days. Can't wait to show you!
this is a repeat, but worth it...AND appropriate since the little brown eyed girl lives in OHIO and that's where this picture was taken...AND I'm going to visit her a week from now. Make sense.
Trying something from Crafting Journey toot ! I was visiting different blogs today and ran across this tutorial on how to add pictures side-by-side on my blog. I can NEVER get my pictures to line up, so I just had try this out!
A few years back, my little brown eyed girl chose to raise money for St. Balderick's. Ever heard of it? It's an organization that raises funds to fight childhood cancer. The premise is, you raise money to shave your head on St. Patty's day. Here's a link to their homepage St.Baldricks. My little girl had this long luxurious brown hair, but she raised $1500 and followed through by shaving her head. Then true to her style, she rocked the look. Check it out!
It's another lazy Sunday in Nashville TN. There was a spittering of snow here for the first time this year. But, that snow has long melted and now it's just a rainy, dreary day.
Remember several posts ago I confessed that I haven't put any photo albums or scrapbooks together for probably 20 years.
I decided to tackle a little bit of that by making my little brown eyed girl a scrapbook. It will probably take awhile...but that doesn't matter, does it?
I recently purchased some Tattered Angel glimmer mists and some mistable papers....
The background paper was originally white with printing. I sprayed it with cranberry zing, patina and suede.
Don't tell the MR. but I do believe I'll need to purchase some more of those.....I have recently had to join the local Paper Addict Anonymous(PAA) because of my need for paper. Yesterday I should've been running other errands, instead I was handling, smelling and eyeing the paper at my local dealer--Michaels.
Note the black flower brads with delicious pearl centers. There is also a brad in the tag, but it's hard to see.
I'm not sure about the tag with the "circa". It's a little hard to read.
I added a doily, spraying it with the patina (I was using that spray for a lot of stuff today)
I threaded a black ribbon through the doily and used a bit of RAK from Gerri Herbst fun little game!
Using my Cricut cartridges: Cindy Loo for the frame, Savory for "SWEET" I had originally planned on putting "Sour" on the page too...but decided against it.
I was 27 and my girl was 6. (the girl is now 25, soon to be 26) My how time flies.
I may add some more to this page...but that's the fun, right?
Hello lovely followers!
Every Wednesday I bring you some silly picture of my life to make you laugh. Happy Wednesday!
Below is a picture of me and my little girl goofing around at the local thrift store.

If you don't know the song I'm quoting here, then make sure and watch the video I've posted below. It's a cute little diddy that makes you hum all day long. I've designated Thursday as "What song is in your head" day. I wake up every morning with some song in my head.
It could be a ballad from Barbara Striesand or Aerosmith rocking tune or even a Lutheran hymn I grew up singing
"Onward Christian Soldiers...marching as to war, with the cross of Jessssuuuusss, going on before."
I never know and that's the joy of it. Tell me what song did you wake up to this morning? Leave me a message peeps, I want to know I'm not the only crazy in the room. As a dedication, I'll add the following pictures, because these are the people that my heart beats to:
little brown eyed girl and the MR.
the family unit circa 1970, minus Mom and Kathy
Not that my Mom and sister Kathy don't beat in my heart, just that they aren't in the picture. Silly people.
the sookie girl, helping me send out xmas cards 2010
And, now for the video. I heart Adam Levine, oh, if I were only 25 again, single and HOT...I'd be a groupie for this man! Yowsers!
This week I signed up for my first booth to peddle my wares. I'm nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof--as the saying goes. How many of my followers have sold their stuff in a market setting? Ya'll comment below and tell me your first experiences. So for me.....this is what it feels like
But, I'm not near as svelt or elegant as this diver. I bet she'll go into the pool without a splash. You know, that's what they always say during the Olympics..."oh boy! that dive was perfect, hardly any splash." Not me, ladies and gent, nope. nada. me. I'm gonna make a big splash...sorta like this fella.
And, I'll look about like he does in a swim suit...just saying. We've had conversations about my girlish figure...remember? To remind you of my girlish figure, here I am on our wedding day. The MR and I kept tossing around the idea of getting hitched, but....everytime we talked about it, both of us back pedaled really quick. We both wanted to take the plunge(you like how I tied that into the title of this post?), but we were skerred of that commitment.
One May day in 2009, when the the little brown eyed girl was coming for a visit to TN I said to the future MR. "Hey, you wanna get married while the girl's in town?" And he said yes. So, on May 19 we went down to the County Mayor"s office and said "I do." It was funny, I had worked that morning and my sweet friends from work, (who by the way, thought I was nuts for working on my wedding day) came along as my bridesmaids, along with my sweet little girl and my twinny. Again, that day I was nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof---someone gimme another saying that relates to nervousness! help a new blogger out. I know, my friend Eartha Kitsch at Ranch Dressing Blog will have a hum-dinger for me. Help me out Eartha....
So before we get to the REAL plunge I started talking about. Let's visit this stunning picture. After my wedding my new inlaws hosted a wonderful reception for the new Horn family. It was a quaint, wonderful day. I was welcomed into the arms of the MR's. family like I was a new wife or something. (haha) My sisters and came to the reception too. And someone snapped this shot of me, my twin and our baby sister, Nancy. Nancy doesn't like anyone touching her. Hands off! You only get one hug a year--on her birthday. And, that's it. So, we were giving her a little ribbing about it ...and....this is the moment caught forever....
one of my favorite of the three of us, really.
mom and dad have this over their mantle (if we they had a mantle)
we made this our xmas photos for that year.....
it is the most stunning visual capture of three sisters ever....
are you ready?
are you sure?
maybe I shouldn't show you? Maybe you'll fall in love with the three of us and start stalking us?
you wouldn't do that, would you?
ok
here you go
Stunning isn't it!?
Ok. so, back to the plunge I was originally talking about. The local women's club is hosting a Mistletoe Marketplace in November and offered members a good deal on a table. I decided I would try it, what could it hurt? If I don't sell a thing, then I know what everyone is getting for their xmas gifts....ya'll know what I'm talking about.
Here's where I need your advice....I'm thinking about doing these types of things:
3.5 x 3.5 magnets with inspirational sayings.
And these:
These are 2x2 memory glass with alcohol inks and stamps magnets. I was especially excited about these because I'm thinking I'm going to just make a bunch of letters and let shoppers make their own words. Like: LOVE
HOPE
PEACE
JOY
or they could make names like
PAIGE
LISA
DIANE
etc.
Followers, I need your advice, what do you think of this idea? Would you purchase them? I'm all kinds of excited...kinda like a cat on a hot tin roof. oh.wait. that cat is nervous...not excited.
My twin says I should make a few of these:
But, I wasn't sure. So ya'll tell me the truth I can take it. I promise. I could use guidance from other people selling stuff on how to merchandise the items for best selling opportunities. If you know a fellow blogger that does this on a regular basis , please share this posting and ask them to give me some good advice.
I'll end with this photo..cause that's what I feel like inside right now:
It's been awhile since I've blogged, not because I didn't want to, just because time constraints of my job. This is our busiest season and this girl is burnin' it at both ends.....
But, I just wanted to write SOMEthing...anything!
I'm gonna tell you a little secret...I love visiting old graveyards. I love tombstone art and it's symbolism. When I spot an old cemetery, I try to stop.... I want to go visit the people that have been there for many years. I take a moment and reminisce on who that person was and what their lives were like. When I visited my little brown eyed girl last month, we,(my twin and I) took the morning to visit Green Lawn Cemetery . We only spent an hour there, so we hardly saw anything. I did get some beautiful pictures. Wanna see some?
check out her beautiful flower garland. What work!
I decided no time like the present to investigate some of the symbolism of these tombstones. Here, the angel on a tomb symbolizes spirituality (easy guess), she is set there to guard the dead and act as a messenger between God and man. A garland can symbolize glory or victory in death--who knew! I thought she was just beautiful--and perhaps the person that picked this angel for this grave site thought the same.
I especially love her back...check it out:
heavenly!
It was a hot as Hades(pun intended) that day, but overcast, making a good day for pictures. I'm no big time photog and all I use is a point and shoot camera...but I do love taking pictures, especially of these lovely monuments to someones dearly beloved. This next monument
enthralled me because of the detail work. Look at these toes...they look better than a fresh pedicure!
I don't remember when this person passed, but you can definitely see some wear...but even after years of wear these toes still look divine! The urn she's holding signifies eternal life and looking down on the grave may mean she's guarding the person there. LOVE.
If you're bored already, go on and visit another blog...cause I have just a little bit more to talk about here....
I thought this little stone was enchanting for the name engraved across the top: HERBIE. Not Herbert, but Herbie...
don't you want to know more about Herbie, just from these simple raised letters?
I'm always a little sad when I find these graves....children's graves. I can't help but wonder how the parents were after they lost their little baby.
a wee angel for Joyce...
the little innocent child, represented by a worn away lamb
This one is kinda creepy because it's a headless dove. Probably vandalized or worn away over time. But, creepy nonetheless.
just a small grave for a small child marked by a dove of peace(without a head....)
Hello All,
Kristin at twinkle twinkle like a star blog is hosting the SUMMER of COLOR challenge, this week we are creating with brown as the color. Humm....
I've been feeling rather nostalgic lately.
My parents are getting older,
I'M getting older,
my little BROWN eyed girl is getting older..she turns 25 in a few weeks.
I ran across this picture of my little BROWN eyed girl and had to post it. Good thing she doesn't follow this blog...it will ruin her street cred.... Heeeeyyyy, maybe I'll make my entire BROWN entry about my little BROWN eyed girl....
Once upon a time a beautiful queen(me) had a beautiful little princess(little brown eyed girl).
queen, ex-king, and princess 1987
The princess had her loyal subjects,
Cousin is actually Aaron.
Towers to climb:
The queen mother and king father were always there to support her and show her the royal ways:
the little brown eyed princess with her crown
The little brown eyed princess grew and grew and it seemed like over night she was a young woman....
Here she is with the queen mother
Even though the queen wanted her little BROWN eyed princess to stay young, alas...she did grow....
Sometimes the paparizzi caught her in compromising positions.....
Cut her hair to raise funds for cancer research, what a good princess!
if the picture is on facebook, then it's fair game here. Maybe this will teach her not to put this on FB?
Butt, (aahahahaa, pun is intended here..) after awhile she calmed down a bit and became a more retrospective young princess...
The queen gave her some great advice along the way
And taught her how to allude the press.
And, now she lives happily ever after....
THE END..
Oh, my brown work for the challenge...silly me. Like I started to say before I got side tracked....I was feeling a little nostalgic lately and decided to make a little mini album. Here's the first page in it.
